Summertime Workout

At the University of Dayton we have 2 six week summer sessions that our student athletes attend.  While they are here on campus they have the opportunity to improve their conditioning both individually and collectively.  Staying in great shape during the off season allows for our student athletes to really hit the ground running when they return to classes in the fall.

Most of their summer conditioning stems from strength training, agilities, plyometric training and on the court workouts.  We have several student athletes that are trying to add muscle mass, strength and explosiveness.  In order to achieve those goals our guys will be in the weight room 4 days a week and in the gym 5 days a week working on their overall conditioning levels.

In addition to their workouts, our players have really dedicated themselves to monitoring their diets as well.  They have done an excellent job of keeping track of caloric intake throughout the course of each day to help ensure they are getting the proper amount of Carbohydrates, proteins and fats in their meals.  This has been a big step in our players development.

Our main message to our guys during the off season is that individual greatness is developed during the summer months.  Staying in great shape, working hard to improve their game and making a commitment to themselves and the team will be a difference maker come October.

For all the young athletes out there the summer time can be a great opportunity to really make strides in your game.  One great way to do so is by attending camps during the summer months.  At those camps you will be able to learn valuable fundamentals of the game and drills that you can work on during the preseason and off-season that will give you an edge over the competition.

Enjoy the summer!  JB
