Every so often I'm fortunate (or unfortunate depending on how you look at it) to have Coach Gregory ask me to get out there during practice and compete with the team. At 29 it's becoming more and more obvious that I'm not in the shape I use to be in...
Although I run (2 miles) and lift 3-4 times per week, I was quickly reminded today how beneficial it is to play some hoops to get a good workout in. Think about the last time you ran on a treadmill for 15-20 minutes then compare that to the last time you played lunch time basketball with some co-workers. I don't know about you but the difference in sweat on my t-shirt is significantly more after a game of hoops. Not only that, but it's a heck of a lot more fun.
My challenge to you would be to find a co-worker or friend looking to get in a good workout and play 10-15 minutes of 1 on 1 full court at the gym and compare that to your 10-15 minutes on the treadmill. More caloric burn and a heck of a lot more fun. You can't make a layup? That's OK, work on your defense. Stay between your man and the basket and you will have a good chance of stopping them. Your other option: go out and rent Hoosiers or White Man Can't jump and see how the game is suppose to be played:) Have fun and remember... DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!
