Tiger Woods began learning the game of golf at 6 months old.  Pele basically dribbled a soccer ball out of the womb.  What about your little guy or girl?  I had a mom ask me before class the other day if it was okay that her two year old had run almost a mile that morning. Apparently, her daughter followed her husband around the track as he was training for a half-marathon. She just kept going around and around, loving every minute of it. And herein lies my short answer to the aforementioned question. What age should a child begin organized sports?  Based on my ten plus years of experience working with children and parents, the answer is, it should be on a case by case basis with an emphasis on monitoring their love of the game.

For the long answer, stay tuned to look at the following subjects in further detail; How is the oraganized sport really organized i.e. what are the priorites of the organization? Where is your heart when you sign lil' man up for a class or a team? How does your fitness level and commitment influence you child's athletic endeavours?

To be continued...
