For really long bikes or bricks, I also use Hammer Perpetuem. This ispowder to mix with water. It has both complex carbs as well as soyprotein which eliminates the need for your body to use muscle proteinafter you have gone through all your glycogen stores.
For electrolytes, there are two options that I like. Hammer Endurolytesor EFS drink mix. I think you are best off starting with theEndurolytes. They are in pill form and if you take two before and everyhour during working out, they seem to work wonders.
For drink mix, I use either Hammer Heed or EFS drink mix. I do not useGatorade. It is too sweet and also has too much simple sugars vscomplex carbs which are in both of the other two drink mixes above. Ifyou use the EFS Drink, there is much less need for electrolyte pills asit is very high in electrolytes.
I use EFS Gel whenever I need it - long runs, long bikes. It is thebest gel I have used by far. Hammer Gel comes in a close second. GUcomes in a last place. I have also used Clif Gel, clif blocks, GU chewsand a number of others. EFS gel is the way to go in my view. However,Hammer has more flavors and is still an excellent option.
For recovery, I use EFS Ultragen or Hammer Recoverite. They are bothbasically the same thing. Complex carbs, whey protein and a few extranutrients mixed in. It really helps replenish the body after longworkouts and races.
