Exercise Description

Most good workouts start with some mild cardio and a 30 minute run to start off your workout is a great idea. Allegedly Tim Geither rises at 5:30 in the morning to go to the gym and work out, so a quick run on the treadmill is a good way to start his day.

Muscle Groups: Legs

Step Number 1

Getting out of bed at 5:30 in the morning is the first step. As most of us know, this is also the hardest step.

Step Number 2

Start off easy, especially when its early in the morning and your body and muscles might still be sore. If you have to walk on the treadmill for a couple of warm-up minutes or even for a good portion of the workout, that's better than pulling a muscle or hurting yourself because your body is not quite ready for physical activity.

Step Number 3

Once you feel warmed-up, move to a more comfortable running/jogging pace. A good running pace is where your heart rate is elevated, but you are only slightly out of breath so that you could still hold a short conversation. A good recommended speed is 6 to 6.5 miles per hour.

Step Number 4

Don't overdo it or push yourself beyond the limit in terms of time or speed. Bear in mind that you want to work out other muscle groups and that at the end of the run you want to feel relaxed, not exhausted.
