Door County, WI, is a beautiful place away from the City, and is about the same distance from Chicago as the west coast of Michigan, which is also a place you have to camp and hike. Sleeping Bear Dunes and Nordhouse are good places to start in western MI.

We haven't done anything as a group yet, but the group is only a month old. I think there are some good day trips both North and South of Chicago. Also the further North you go (to upstate Wisconsin or Michigan) the better the trails.

I'm planning to go snowshoeing this winter and am looking to rent as opposed to buying snowshoes. Is REI the best option or do you guys have a better idea? Also, any preferred trails in either Illinois or Michigan?
