If you eat to much before exercise, your blood will be in your "guts". If you are fasting for many hours you probably have to stop because your blood glucose down. Drink water moderately before, during and after exercise. If the exercise is of high intensity drink water with a little of sugar and salt during and after the exercise.

Hello! High energy foods include raw fruits and veggies, especially dark leafy greens, whole grains (the actual grains like brown rice, quinoa and barley), and sea plants like algae and seaweed. I'm going to be doing an Eating for Energy workshop at Accelerated Rehabilitation Center (West Loop) on August 18. If you can't make the workshop, email me at mishra@nutrisults.com and I will send you a Top 10 Ways to Increase Your Energy handout. Hope this helps! Mishra:)

I tend to eat a lot of cereal and drink lots of water. I should work out more but the hot weather really makes me lethargic. Soon I will be going to Northern Michigan and I think I wil have more energy and be motivated to get lots of exercise. I love salmon and mackrel. does anyone else have other suggestions for hi energy foods ?

I agree Greg. I cannot eat before a cardio workout....or else things 'reappear'!!! Weight training I usually try to eat about 1 hour before hand. I have noticed that it allows me to feel a little less woozy at the end of the workout. My favorite pre-workout meal is a turkey sandwich, banana, and a huge glass of water.

There's been a lot of talk recently about the best pre-workout meal, and I have to tell you I'm a fan of just hydrating myself before working out and not eating anything. I'm not saying I should starve myself, but I don't like to load up on carbs or sugars or anything else before I go to the gym. I find, unless you're running on empty, that as soon as you start working out you lose your appetite and forget about food. Instead I focus on keeping myself hydrated and I drink lots of water, not Gatorade or any "electrolyte replacing" drink. It seems to work the best.
