About Carole

I was a medical time bomb as I approached my 60th birthday, yet one event changed the direction of my life. When I stepped on the bathroom scale, the scale broke. In that instant, I decided to break from my unhealthy ways and get fit.

Over the next six months, I lost 62 pounds and chronicled my weight loss adventure in the local newspaper. Later, I invited friends and neighbors in our small Northern California town to join me in losing weight.

More than 1,000 neighbors and friends showed up for the Nevada County Meltdown. During the next 8 weeks, we lost nearly 4 tons and found a renewed sense of community. Afterward, I wrote the book "From Fat to Fit: Turn Yourself into a Weapon of Mass Reduction." In the book, I share seven practical steps to fitness. I also share my philosophy, which is very simple: FIT.

F: Fun. Find fun ways to eat and exercise so you will sustain them for the rest o fyour life.

I: Individualize. Do what is right for your body, given your age, physical and medical condition, preferences and budget.

T: Together. Team up with others. Both giving and receiving support is critical to your success.

Since getting fit was such a transformational experience for me, I've gone on to write over 400 articles on a range of fitness topics. I've also appeared in or been interviewed for 100+ radio and television programs, including NBC's "Today Show, " CBS "Early Show" and MSNBC's "Countdown." I am also a frequent contributor to several national online publications, including "The Huffington Post" and "American Chronicle."

My real passion is helping communities tackle the growing issue of obesity. To further this objective,  I wrote "The Fat to Fit Meltdown Manual: Create Weapons of Mass Reduction in Your Community."  As part of this effort, I'm coaching the 18,000+ members of the AARP Fat 2 Fit online Community! Members have the opportunity to team up to tackle issues of weight and fitness. We support each other as we move toward a healthier lifestyle.
